Hello everyone. Hope everyone is enjoying the Fall with the leaves changing, the cooler temperatures, football, baseball playoffs and the start of the 2017-18 PGA TOUR season.
It is finally time for me to get rolling again, by competing this week in Jackson, MS at the Sanderson Farms Championship. Many hours of practicing and playing at Butler National, River Forest, Links and Tees and even some Elmhurst parks have me excited to tee it up again. A recent session with Joe Mayo in Las Vegas made some of the changes more clear, and I’m excited to take them into action. The short game all feels great as well and I look forward to playing on the glass like greens of Country Club of Jackson this week.
Some highlights in the past month include playing in a fun Ryder Cup style event at Butler National where my fellow Illinois resident, Jeff Sluman, and I captained two teams for a one day event. Jeff showed me his PGA TOUR Champions skills as he shut me out, but my partner helped gain a point in our group. Eventually the teams tied with 10 points each, making us hungry for another go.
The Tee Up a Harvest event went as planned and was a huge success. Peter Jacobsen and Jim Furyk spent their two days at Rich Harvest Farms graciously talking golf and sharing their insights with many on the game, their games and funny things that have happened to them over the years. It is still being wrapped up, but the event will result in feeding just over 2,000 students on the weekends for an entire school year in the Chicago area. I have so many people to thank, starting with my wife, Amy, who without her, none of this would have ever happened. Then we had a team of volunteers who worked many hours over nine months to get this done. Then thankfully people decided it would be a fun thing to do, so the money was generated for the kids. Thanks to Doug Meijer, who I got to play with on Monday, for being the title sponsor. Doug hits it a long way if anyone is looking for a good scramble partner!
