From Will Boyd of Champaign, IL: I play collegiate golf and I'm wondering if you have any advice on how to practice? I'm also thinking about playing overseas or on mini-tours when I graduate, do you have any tips for me on that?

My best advice for practicing is to play games with your teammates, playing for who has to do laundry or buy lunch. For example, go to a chipping green you can also putt on. Bring a wedge and two golf balls each. Play nine holes, picking some easy ones and some tough ones. I recommend dropping the ball at each spot instead of placing it.

In regards to playing after college, I played the Hooters Tour for four years and would highly recommend it. They play 72 hole events with a 36 hole cut and no carts. Then when I got on Tour, I already knew what it was like to play tournaments with a cut and two rounds after the cut. I also learned what worked best for me in regards to hotels, driving, flying, etc. The transition to the PGA Tour was much easier then. And as long as you have financial backing, I recommend going to the PGA Tour’s Qualifying School in the fall even if you don’t feel ready. You might play great and get right on Tour or at least you will know what it is all about when you do feel ready in future years.
